White to cream coloured powder, Calcium iodate also known as Calcium diiodate and Lautarite has CAS No.: 7789-80-2 , Mol formula :Ca (IO3 )2 , Mol wt :389.98gmol, available in white to cream color powder form, soluble in Nitric acid but not soluble in alcohol. .
Calcium iodate contains Iodine , an essential trace element required for overall development of the body and also for the effective functioning of the Thyroid gland to produce Thyroid hormones [ Thyroxine( T4 ), Triiodothyronine (T3)] that control the Body’s metabolic functions , the nerve and muscle functions. The deficiency of iodine leads to a disease known as Goiter that results into an enlargement in the size of the Thyroid gland.
Calcium iodate as an effective source of iodine is used as a nutritional additive in the livestock feed , poultry feed for the treatment and control of iodine related deficiencies .
