An aluminium anode is a type of sacrificial anode that is used in cathodic protection to prevent the corrosion of metallic structures. Aluminium has a lower electrode potential than most other metals, which means that it will corrode before the metal it is protecting.
In practice, the aluminium anode is connected to the structure to be protected, which is typically made of steel or another metal that is susceptible to corrosion. When the structure is immersed in an electrolyte, such as seawater, the aluminium anode will corrode in preference to the metal structure, thereby protecting it from corrosion.
