SmithHeat Cartridge heaters consist of a cylindrical stainless steel tube which provides high corrosion prevention and there is a heating wire inside which is wound onto a ceramic core. The number of coils varies depending on the power. In order to avoid short-circuit, the cartridge heater is filled with magnesium oxide and compressed afterwards. The specially formulated Magnesium oxide is utilized inside the heater is transformed into a rock-hard, highly efficient heat transferring medium through a special cold forming process.

Cartridge heaters can withstand tough industrial usage; they can transmit up to 200 watts/in² heating capacity and are able to attain up to 1500°F sheath temperature.
