• Ceftriaxone belongs to the family of antibiotics known as cephalosporins.
• It is used to prevent or treat certain infections caused by bacteria.
• It is given by injection only into a muscle or vein.
• Ceftriaxone is used to treat acute bacterial otitis media; treatment of infections of lower respiratory tract, skin and skin structures, bone and joint, and urinary tract; treatment of pelvic inflammatory disease, intra-abdominal infections, gonorrhea, meningitis, and septicemia caused by susceptible microorganisms; preoperative prophylaxis.
