Ceramic Frits

Frit is a ceramic composition formed by fusing inorganic materials into a glass by heating them in smelters and quenching them in water. This process, known as “fritting” was developed to render any soluble andor toxic components insoluble andor nontoxic. Further benefits of fritting include the elimination of chemically combined water from the ingredients; reduction of the melting point of the fritted materials versus that of the individual components; and simplification of the glaze or bond system by reducing the number of materials in the formula.
