Chitin is a macromolecular linear polymer of anhydro N-acetyl –D – glucosamine (N-acetyle-2-amino 2-deoxy D-glucose). The monomer units are linked by Beta (1-4) glycosidic bonds.Applications : Chitin is used as raw material for the production of chitosan (deacetylated chitin) and glucosamine hydrochloride.
