CHLORIDE is a cobalt salt that has many applications, including:

·        Moisture indicator: Cobalt chloride is a common visual indicator of moisture because it changes color when hydrated. It's used in paper test strips to detect moisture in solutions, air, and gas. It's also added to desiccants like silica gel to indicate when they're "spent". 

·        Catalyst: Cobalt chloride is used as a catalyst in organic reactions, such as acetylation, tosylation of alcohols, and condensation reactions. It's also used in the preparation of electroplating catalysts. 

·        Pigment: Cobalt chloride is used as a raw material for producing pigments for glass, ceramics, and porcelain. 

·        Corrosion inhibitor: Cobalt chloride is used as a corrosion inhibitor. 

·        Water treatment: Cobalt chloride is used in water treatment. 

·        Textile dye: Cobalt chloride is used in the manufacture of textile dyes. 

·        Fertilizer: Cobalt chloride is used as a fertilizer. 

Cobalt chloride is also known as cobaltous chloride, cobalt dichloride, or muriate of cobalt. It's a purple crystalline powder that's odorless and soluble in water. 

Cobalt chloride is toxic to aquatic organisms and can be dangerous to drinking water. It should be stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place in its original packaging, tightly closed.
