Lagan was set up in 1955 by James Mackie & Sons, Belfast, Northern Ireland, for manufacturing Jute Machineries as a subsidiary. It was run under the Government of India from 1978 to 2000, when the controlling stake in the Company was disinvested to Murlidhar Ratanlal Exports Ltd., a Rs 700 Crore company involved in Jute manufacturing.
Over the past 60 years, Lagan has maintained the highest standards of quality earning it plaudits and customers from all over the globe. Almost all machines manufactured by it over these years are still running well in Jute mills. In these past 15 years, Lagan has extensively modernized its machinery and infrastructure, enabling it to be a major engineering player in Eastern India. With the help of its R&D team, Lagan has introduced new technology and also added new verticals to its business.
