Therawin Corn Starch Powder is a household staple that can be used for a variety of purposes – for cooking, cleaning, skin and hair treatments, etc. For baking and kitchen use, cornstarch can be added to soups, cakes, sauces, custards, and gravy for a thick and rich texture. It can be used as a DIY fabric stiffener. Just mix 1 tablespoon of powder, ¼ cup of boiling water, and ¼ cup of cold water. Once the mixture is applied to the fabric and it is pressed, the starch adds a significant stiffness and rigidity to the fabric. This makes fabrics easier to work with as you sew, cut, or press. If you have dry or easily-irritated skin, you can also use cornstarch as part of your homemade skin soother. Simply form a paste by combining three tablespoons of starch with cold water until you arrive at a thick peanut-butter-like consistency. Use a cotton ball or gauze pad to apply the mixture to sunburnt or itchy skin and let it air dry. Corn starch powder is also a great stain remover. Just sprinkle a small amount of powder directly onto the stain to allow it to absorb some of the grease or color from the fabric. Use cold water to flush the back side of the fabric. The cold water will act as the catalyst to help push the stain out of the fabric’s fiber. It will loosen the stain and help make removal easier. Dull silverware will easily get its gleam back with a simple paste consisting of 1-part starch and 3-parts water. Apply the paste to the silverware with a damp cloth, let it dry, and polish it with a microfiber cloth right after.
