Cupressus Funebris

Cupressus funebris, commonly known as the Chinese weeping cypress, is a medium-sized elegant tree with bright-green hanging branches and lanceolate mucronate leaves with a spreading apex, attains a height of 25mt. The branches are generally horizontal and spread evenly. The flowers are monoecious. The seed cones, about 8-15 mm in diameter, are ovoid in shape and turn dark brown on maturity. Cupressus funebris seeds are light brown and lustrous. The seeds germinate more easily in well-drained sandy, loamy and clayey soils. Germination requires ample sunlight and soil pH of 6 or more. Cupressus funebris seeds can be easily stored for several years. This plant is native of China. It can also be propagate by stem cuttings and it is drought tolerant. The decoction of fruiting stem is used to treat cold. The wood is hard and durable.
