Glucosamine hydrochloride (D-glucosamine hydrochloride) is an amino sugar that is an important precursor in the biochemical synthesis of glycosylated proteins and lipids and can be used as a dietary supplement. Glucosamine hydrochloride is also a natural component of glycosaminoglycans in cartilage matrix and synovial fluid and can exert pharmacological effects on osteoarthritic cartilage and chondrocytes when administered exogenously.
