Dicumyl Peroxide is also known as isopropyl benzene peroxide . It appears as white powder. It is insoluble in water , but soluble in ethanol, ethyl ether and benzene. Dicumyl peroxide is a strong free radical source ; used as a polymerization initiator, catalyst and vulcanizing agent.
 
Applications :

• Cross linking elastomeric and thermoplastics : Dicumyl peroxide,is used for the cross linking of natural and synthetic rubbers, as well as thermoplastic polyolefins.  
• Dicumyl peroxide in high polymers : It is used in Polymerization of styrene and also as a Co agent to produce flame-retardant expandable polystyrene.
• Curing of UP/VE Resins : Dicumyl peroxide,is a special purpose high temperature initiator for the curing of unsaturated polyester, vinyl ester and acrylic thermosetting resins.
