EDM Oils

Appro EDM is a premium dielectric fluid meeting the requirements for insulation and controlled dielectric discharge during electric discharge machining operations. It is formulated with a highly refined, narrow cut paraffinic base stock. The product is colourless and virtually odourless which provides a cleaner and more pleasant atmosphere in the workplace. The product exhibits a relatively high flash point that reduces the possibility of fire. The low viscosity of the fluid provides good circulation through the spark gap and more rapid removal and settling of metal fines. Has excellent oxidation stability, which reduces the formation of oxidation products that will alter the dielectric strength of the fluid. It also exhibits a high dielectric strength, which provides insulation of the tool and work piece and controls electric discharge during the machining operation. Appro EDM oil is also extremely effective as a glass grinding fluid.
Recommendations: EDM is a machining method primarily used for hard metals or those that would be impossible to machine with traditional techniques. One critical limitation, however, is that EDM only works with materials that are electrically conductive. EDM or electrical discharge machining, is especially well-suited for cutting intricate contours or delicate cavities that would be difficult to produce with a grinder, an end mill or other cutting tools. Metals that can be machined with EDM include hast alloy, hardened tool-steel, titanium, carbide, Inconel and kovar.
