ellora's hamlet is located about 30 km from aurangabad is the place where the cave complex at ellora, now a world heritage site. Caves can be divided intro three groups buddhist caves, grottos and caves hindu jain. The centerpiece of ellora is the cave probably kailasanatha temple. The buddhist caves were the earliest structures (the 5th to 7th centuries), and served as vihara (monastery) and chaityas (prayer rooms). Caves was adorned with images of buddha carved boddhisatvas and events in the life of buddha. The hindu caves (7th-8th century) offers a complex set of artistic skills with a wide range of topics.
