Eranda is perennial shrub and used for treating various ailments. Castor plant has anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, liver protecting and various other medicinal properties. Castor oil or eranda taila (eranda oil) is extracted from castor beans is very good laxative, anti -inflammatory and cures skin problems.For medicinal purpose the leaves and dried mature roots of plant are used. Below is given the Ayurvedic properties and action of fresh leaf and dried roots of castor. This is said to yield oil suitable only for illumination and lubrication. The other form which is grown as an annual crop has gray and brown mottled seeds, these yields oil suitable for medicinal uses. There is still another form with purple bronze leaves; it is grown only for ornaments.Castor oil massaged over the body, before bath, keeps the skin healthy & imparts sound sleep. Such oil over may be taken once in a week. Applying castor oil over hand & feet before going to sleep keeps them soft.
