STORAGE OF ESOMEPRAZOLE:Esomeprazole 0.4 and 0.8 mg/mL as the sodium salt in the infusion solutions tested is chemically and physically stable for at least 2 days at room temperature and 5 days under refrigeration.
APPLICATIONS OF ESOMEPRAZOLE: esomeprazole is used to treat the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a condition in which backward flow of acid from the stomach causes heartburn and possible injury of the esophagus (the tube between the throat and stomach) in adults and children 1 year of age and older.
HOW TO USE: Usually take esomeprazole once a day, first thing in the morning. You can take it with or without food. If you take esomeprazole twice a day, take 1 dose in the morning and 1 dose in the evening. Swallow tablets and capsules whole with a drink of water (non-fizzy).
HOW ESOMEPRAZOLE WORKS: Esomeprazole is a type of medicine called a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). Proton pumps are enzymes in the lining of your stomach that help it make acid to digest food. Esomeprazole prevents proton pumps from working properly. This reduces the amount of acid the stomach makes.

PHARMACOKINETICS OF ESOMEPRAZOLE: Esomeprazole is extensively metabolized in the liver by the cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzyme system. The major part of esomeprazole's metabolism is dependent upon the CYP2C19 isoenzyme, which forms the hydroxy and desmethyl metabolites. The remaining amount is dependent on CYP3A4 which forms the sulphone metabolite.
