An RPR card is a diagnostic tool used for the Rapid Plasma Reagin (RPR) test. It typically consists of a small card with wells or circles where the test samples are placed. The card is coated with a substance containing cardiolipin, cholesterol, and lecithin, along with a carbon particle suspension. When a sample (usually serum or plasma) containing antibodies to Treponema pallidum, the bacterium that causes syphilis, is applied to the card, it interacts with the reagents on the card. If antibodies are present, they will cause visible clumping or agglutination, indicating a positive result.
