EFIS normallyconsists of a primary flight display (PFD), multi-function display (MFD) andengine indicating and crew alerting system (EICAS) display. Although cathoderay tube (CRT) displays were used at first, liquid crystal displays (LCD) arenow more common.   The complex electromechanical attitudedirector indicator (ADI) and horizontal situation indicator (HSI) were thefirst candidates for replacement by EFIS. However, there are now few flightdeck instruments for which no electronic display is available.
