Originally instituted at crosswalks and other hazardous vehicular ways by countries like Japan the United Kingdom and Australia, among others, the United States picked up the standard in the early 1990s. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) now mandates detectable warnings in prescribed locations, such as on the surface of pedestrian curb cuts and at the edge of rail platforms.

Care required: These tiles are supplied ‘finished’ from factory. It is extremely important to take care in the handling and laying process at site. Any damages to edges or corners or spoiling of the surface is extremely difficult and often not possible to repair, except by changing of the tiles.
