Most of israel's lemons are the eureka variety also.despite some shortcomings it has many favorable characteristics, which have led to its being planted on such a wide scale. Of californian origin from seeds imported from sicily in 1858, it was selected by w. C. Workman and two decades later was propagated by t. A. Garey and introduced as garey's eureka but soon became known simply as eureka.the tree has a spreading habit but is only moderately vigorous and is much smaller than the other widely grown variety
