    Roasted Gram named as follows in different region. They are Fried gram, Channa, Bengal gram, Kala channa, varukadalai, pottu kadalai, porikadalai, ChickPea, Namkeen Channa (Salted Roasted Gram) and others. 
    Chickpeas are edible legumes belonging to the family of 'Fabaceae' with slightly round & irregular shape, and are slightly longer in size than the normal peas. They are also known by the names of 'garbanzo beans', and have a nut like taste with a high protein content in them. The plants of the chickpeas grow between 20-25 cm and have feathery leaves on both sides of the stem. Chickpeas can grow well only in sub-tropical and tropical climates requiring an annual rainfall of more than 400 mm.

    Chick peas also known as Bengal Gram,Bengal gram is one of the most important pulses in India. It is consumed in the form of whole dried seeds and in the form of dhal, prepared by splitting the seeds in a mill and separating the husk. Seeds are angular with pointed beak and small helium. All parts of the plant are covered with glandular hairs. Bengal gram is believed to have originated in western Asia. It spread at a very early date to India and Europe. The crop was known was the ancient Egyptians. Hebrews and Greeks. Its areas of cultivation are India, Burma. Pakistan. Egypt and other Mediterranean countries. Ethiopia. South America and tropical Australia.
