Fuel Dyes

Fuel additives are chemicals which are used to enhance the properties of fuel. These additives are used to improve the quality of fuels for use in motor vehicles, aircraft, marine vessels, and in various fix installations like power plants, refineries and so on. However, dyes and markers are mainly added to the fuel to distinguish between various grades of fuel, to allow easier corporate identification, to support in the prevention of fuel adulterationtheft etc. The theft of fuel has become a global problem. Dyes and markers are used to identify the fuel and to prevent the act of fuel theft. The markers can also be used to check the fuel quality at refinery, on the road, or in a laboratory for quantitative accuracy. Various distributors and manufacturer mainly uses dyes and markers to prevent the misuse of the fuel. Markers does not show any visible effect in fuel, but when it is extract with a solvent, the markers impart special colours. Some markers may also require UV or IR spectroscopy to reveal their presence in the fuel.
