Property: gallium metal, in the solid state, with light green metallic luster and good malleability, is quite steady in the air. Its density is 5.907gcc, melting point is 29.75°c, so it has the widest temperature range in which the liquid state is maintained. It is nearly the same as silver in the liquid state. It is not resolved in water, and is apt to be dissolved in acids and alkalis. The gallium can form alloys with a lot of kinds of metals, and can form chemical compounds with some nonmetals.
Use: used for producing compound semiconductor materials, superconductor materials and structural materials of fast neutron reactors, and is used as the additive of the alloys such as permanent magnetic materials.
Package & storage: gallium metal must be stored in the capsules, rubber bottles and the containers made of polyethylene because there is violent expansion of about 3% when it is solidified.
