Many buildings today are designed with long unsupported spans which provide a more open and less obstructed floor area, making the gantry crane a viable and economical solution as it travels on the plant floor eliminating the need for concrete foundations, runway columns and beam structures that take away from the desired open floor space.
Industrial strip malls and leased properties are now home to many small to medium sized manufacturing companies. These buildings are not typically designed to support the dynamic loadings imposed by an overhead crane. Again, the gantry crane proves to be a viable and economical solution, with it's self supporting design, the gantry crane can provide your overhead material handling needs with the advantage of not compromising the integrity of the building and providing the business owner with portability to easily move the gantry to a future location.
Many companies have now adopted the "lean" manufacturing system where the plant is divided into "cell" process areas. Having a specific process integrated within a larger process. For example: The main process area has an existing overhead bridge crane with a span of 50 feet, a specific cell process in the same bay requires a dedicated crane with only a 20 foot span. A semi-gantry crane is ideal as it utilizes one side of the existing overhead runway and the self- supporting leg at the other side running on the plant floor.
    Munck "Tracker" Gantry
The Little Crane With A One Track Mind!
The tracker is the modern economical answer to material handling where building design and cost make a standard crane and runway prohibitive. The tracker operates with one leg forced to an end track equipped with guided steel wheels running on a square bar rail elevated 1 12" on steel supports that are bolted to the floor. This allows power, water, or airlines to pass under the rail. The other leg is equipped with high durability urethane covered flat tread wheels which run directly on the flat concrete floor with no guidance system. The tracker is easily installed on any smooth concrete floor and the floor track, on one side, is readily removable or expandable should you wish to move the system to another location. More than one tracker can be placed on the same track with ease.
Installation of the tracker is simple, with it's pre-engineered kit design, the tracker is bolted and pre-wired electrical connections make it easy to assemble. If you don't feel confident assembling the tracker yourself, your local Munck Cranes Inc Technician is fully equipped to do the job economically for you.
The tracker is available in full and Semi-Gantry design with capabilities of one to 5 tonnes. Standard spans up to 30 feet and lifts from 8 to 20 feet with single or two-speed motions.
The tracker is a bold approach to material handling with economy and versatility in mind.
