Gingko has so many useful properties because of its main components, the bioflavonoids, a  potent antioxidant. These antioxidants also include vitamins C, E, and A, beta-carotene and selenium, which aid in destroying free-roaming oxygen molecules. Ginkgo biloba is antioxidant rich and does have a long history of use in Asia as a regenerative herb.
