Nature of applications:

• For removal of excess chlorine, color, odor, taste, organic micro pollutants such as pesticides, oxidizing chemicals and compounds.
• To enhance purity, to improve the appearance of product and to act as barrier to prevent migration of color bodies.
• Often used as one of the final treatment steps (post polishing) either stand alone or preceded by ozonization.

How activated carbon works

Due to its huge surface area and specific surface chemistry, activated carbon can adsorb large quantities of organic pollutants from water. The compounds are adsorbed into the internal pores. A general rule of thumb about the adsorbability is the more hydrophobic (or less soluble in water), the more adsorbable the compound. To obtain maximum efficiency of activated carbon in the adsorbtion process. It is desirable to have the greatest possible surface area in the smallest practical volume.
