Gymnema Sylvestre is also known as Gurmar which means “Sugar Destroyer” is a perennial woody vine that grows in the tropical area of India has been used for medicinal purposes in Ayurvedic medicine. Gymnema leaves contain gymnemic acid- the main active constituents- is extensively used as a therapy for diabetes and arthritis also has a significant role in weight management. It contains various compounds such as glycosides and Anthraquinones. Gymnema having an anti-atherosclerotic action which helps to reduce lipid in the bloodstream and inhibit plaque formation on the wall of arteries. Gymnema prevents sugar craving thus, act as anti-obesity, traditionally it also used to treat diabetes, digestive problem, urinary tract problems, allergic and inflammation problems.
