Gymnemic acids are glycosides isolated from the leaves of Gymnema Sylvestre (Asclepiadaceae). Gymnemic acids like ziziphin and hodulcine are anti-sweet compounds, or sweetness inhibitors. Its use has been confined primarily to the management of diabetes. The leaves also have been used for stomach ailments, constipation, water retention, and liver disease.
