Heliotropium Arborescens

Buy Heliotrope online. One of the best plants for hanging pots.

Heliotrope adds color, texture and scent to one’s garden. They are small, shrub-like temperate perennials, with large clusters of deep violet-white flowers having sweet vanilla scent.

They are long bloomers that begin flowering in summer and continue through the first frost. Their leaves are dark green colored, long oval, and lancet shaped.

Heliotrope are very easy to grow with seeds. However, propagation by cuttings is the preferred method if one is seeking exact match to the parent plant’s color and scent.

A heliotrope plant needs at least six hours of sun a day and prefers morning sun. They appreciate rich, loamy soil and even moisture, particularly if planted in containers. They don’t do well in heavy clay.

Heliotrope plants grow in one-sided clusters that follow the sun, hence the name from the Greek words Helios (sun) and Tropos (turn).
