Cedar Wood Oil (Himalayan) is distilled from the Roots & Stumps of cedar trees (cedrus-deodara) Which has been left after cutting of these cedar trees for timber extraction. These stumps and roots are removed in scientific way. The pits so formed are filled consolidated and three plants of cedar trees are planted in place of one stump in rainy season and they are protected by bush cutting fancying by this new forests has grown up.There by adds to soil conservation, Plant regeneration and a forestation otherwise nothing would have grown in that area covered by these dead stumps because it takes about 60-100 years for stumps to disintegrate.
From the wood part of stump the Cedar Wood Oil (Himalayan) is extracted by steam distillation method when oil is extracted the color of oil is brownish yellow viscous liquid. this is called Crude Oil then after giving alkali wash to it we got the quality of oil is called Rectified cedar wood oil . Which is rich in Himachalene this quality of Cedar Wood Oil (Himalayan) is generally used in perfumes & cosmetics.
Botanical Description
Cedar Wood (cedrus-deodara) known as one of the four true cedar in the world the cedrus deodara is a member of the pinacea family and is native to the Himalayas.The cedar wood trees can grow up to 150 to 250 ft. tall it grows wild on the slopes of the Himalayas in northern India and it occur at 5000 to 10000 ft. height. It is a large evergreen coniferous tree with ascending and spreading branches, its needle like leaves are triquetrous, present in whorls and dark green with a silver sheen flowers open in autumn are cone like in shape and occur upright on horizontal branches, similar to other cedars.The heart wood of Himalayan cedar wood is highly aromatic and yield is about 3% To 4% of essential oil.
