For determining maximum density of water, made of G.I. sheet cylinder 50 mm diameter x 300 mm height mounted on a base having two tubulators for thermometers, with a gallery of 60 mm x 150 mm for placing mixture of ice & salt. The respective temperatures of water at the top & bottom of the inner cylindrical vessel are measured over a period as the water cools. Complete with bungs & thermometers.
