A thrust bearing is a type of rolling element bearing
that is designed to handle a predominantly axial
load. There are many different types of thrust
bearings available, but they all share the same basic
design characteristics to be able to handle an axial

Ball Thrust Bearing – Ball thrust a bearing, also
commonly referred to as angular contacts ball bearings, and is a type of thrust bearing that uses
balls as a rolling element. The inner and outer races are slightly curved and offset to create
varying contact angles. The contact angle is determined by the application. Angular contact
bearings are available with steel, bronze, and polyamide retainers. This type of bearing is flush
ground so it can be run in tandem. Pairs of two and sets of three are very common, especially
with high-precision bearings being used in precision machining equipment like CNC’s and high
speed lathes.
