Contact SupplierHulled Raw Sunflower Seeds
Ingredients
Sunflower seeds.
Usage Tips
Add sunflower seeds to your favorite tuna, chicken or turkey salad recipe. Sprinkle them on hot and cold cereals. Toss them with stir-fry vegetables, garnish your salads with them, or bake them into homemade breads, bagels and muffins. Sunflower seeds can also be used interchangeably with dried fruit, nuts and other seeds in many recipes.
Note: when combined with baking soda in baked goods, sunflower seeds can cause a chemical reaction that may give your product a blue-green tinge. They are still safe to eat.
Storage Tips
Sunflower seeds should be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container, since the high oil content can cause the seeds to go rancid. Enjoy within six months, or freeze to extend shelf life. Cold temperatures will not cause major changes in texture or flavour.
Points of Interest
Sunflower seeds have been used for more than 5,000 years by Native Americans as both a food and an oil source. With their mildly nutty flavour, not only do they taste great, they are an excellent health-promoting snack that will satisfy your hunger while supplying an excellent source of vitamin E, and good sources of thiamine, manganese, magnesium, copper and selenium.
Sunflower seeds are sold either shelled or unshelled and can be enjoyed raw or cooked.
Other
Sunflower seeds are high in healthy unsaturated fats as well as protein, fibre and other important nutrients. Sunflower seeds contain both monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fat, the types of fat that may protect the heart.
