Hydrated lime used in the chemical industries and road construction for soil stabilization. Other uses include: water treatment, sugar refining, dehairing of hides and lime washing. Production calcium hydroxide or hydrated lime is produced by adding water to unslaked lime according to the reaction: cao + h2o = ca(oh)2 during this process heat is released and the unslaked lime doubles its volume. Hydrated lime is also known as slaked lime and is very fine dry powder.

Uses of hydrated lime metallurgical applications hydrated lime is used in ph control, which facilitates precipitation of cobalt hydroxide from the electrolyte in cobalt production. sugar refinery in the production of sugar from both cane and beets, the crude sugar juice (sucrose) is treated with lime. This forms insolubles that are filtered to remove phosphatic materials and organic acids. The resulting juice is further treated to achieve greater purity of sugar solution which is ultimately crystallised and packaged.
