IEC Code Registration Service

The Importer Exporter Code (IEC) is a 10-digit unique code issued by the DGFT under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. No individual or business can import or export goods or services without obtaining an IEC, unless specifically exempted.

Once issued, the IEC remains valid for a lifetime and does not require periodic renewal, provided the details are kept updated.

IEC registration is mandatory for:

• Importers of goods into India
• Exporters of goods or services from India
• Proprietorship firms involved in international trade
• Partnership firms and LLPs
• Private Limited and Public Limited Companies
• Manufacturers exporting finished products
• Service providers receiving foreign currency payments
• Online sellers exporting through global marketplaces

IEC registration is not required for:

1. Individuals importing or exporting goods for personal use
2. Government ministries and departments
3. Certain notified charitable institutions

4. Smooth customs clearance for imports and exports
5. Enhanced business credibility with overseas clients
6. No annual return filing or renewal requirement

• IEC is valid for a lifetime
• No renewal or compliance filing required
• Details must be updated if there is any change in business information

To apply for IEC registration, the following documents are required:

• PAN card of the individual or business entity
• Aadhaar card or identity proof of the applicant
• Address proof of business premises
• Cancelled cheque or bank certificate
• Passport-size photograph
• Digital signature (if applicable)

The IEC registration process involves the following steps:

1. Application filing on the DGFT portal
2. Verification of documents and business details
3. Online submission with digital authentication
4. Issuance of IEC certificate by DGFT

The IEC certificate is generally issued within 2–5 working days, subject to verification.

IEC holders are required to update or confirm their IEC details on the DGFT portal as and when notified. Failure to update may lead to deactivation of the IEC.
