The second main quality is Salem Gattha, which is produced in Salem. Rajapuri quality is also a well-know quality and attracts the Masala Manufacturer, besides the Salem variety. Both Rajapuri and Salem quality fetch higher profit. Third quality is produced in Messur, Karnataka and called as Godal Pater. It is considered slightly inferior in quality to the former. The fourth quality – the Finger quality gets its name from its shape – which looks like human finger. The major Turmeric Fingers producing states are Tamil Nadu, AP, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Orissa, Meghalaya, Bihar, and Assam. Moreover, Erode, Salem and Rajapur are this spice’s main trading places. Turmeric is also produced by countries like Myanmar and China.
India is the largest producer and exporter of Turmeric Powder. Bangladesh, Pakistan, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Burma are other significant producers of turmeric powder. US is the largest exporter of turmeric, India provides 90% of the US demand followed by Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka & Bangladesh.
Cumin is a Seed Spice well known for its medicinal properties in India and many other Asian countries. A native of the land of Mediterranean, cumin is now grown mainly in India, Egypt, Syria, Turkey, China and part of America. A speed spice, cumin is grown mainly in hot climatic conditions. India is the largest producer and consumer of cumin in the world. Gujarat and Rajasthan are the major production centers of this spice in the country. West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Punjab also make significant contribution in cumin production India. Cumin is mainly sown in October – November and harvested in February. Our exports of cumin is mainly made to us U.S., U.K., Japan Brazil, Singapore and many other countries.
Coriander Seeds in India coriander are particularly cultivated in all the states and constitute an important subsidiary crop in the black cotton soils of Deccan and South India (Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu) and the rich silt loam of North India. In Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, over 100000 acres are under coriander cultivation. Similarly, it is grown on a fair scale in Punjab and neighboring states.
