ISO 45001 is an ISO standard for management systems of occupational health and safety, published in March 2018. The goal of ISO 45001 is the reduction of occupational injuries and diseases, including promoting and protecting physical and mental health. ISO 45001:2018 specifies requirements for an occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system, and gives guidance for its use, to enable organizations to provide safe and healthy workplaces by preventing work-related injury and ill health, as well as by proactively improving its OH&S performance.  ISO 45001 is a global standard for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems that provides a practical solution to improve the safety and health of both employees and other personnel. This standard has been designed with an intention to be applicable for any company regardless of its size, type and nature. An occupational health and safety management system, or OHSMS, is the set of rules, policies, processes, plans and practices that an organization uses to protect people’s health and safety in the workplace.

Every organization’s OHSMS is unique. It must take the organization’s legal framework, relevant hazards, and processes into account. However, certain principles and elements are common to all successful health and safety systems.
