Bronze & Iron Based Sintered Bearings / Oil Impregnated Bronze Bearings equivalent to "Oilite" Bushings

Sintered bushings are maintenance free journal bearings. These bearings are based on powdered metal technology and consist of porous matrix which are impregnated with lubricating oil. These bearings are also known as oil impregnated bearings and is equivalent to oilite bushings. The lubricating oil contained in the pores in the bearing is circulated and plays the role of lubricant in the bearing system during operation. Sintered bearings have very high sliding velocity making them suitable for rotating applications like machine tools, household equipment, electrical equipment, automobiles and printing machinery.
Sintered bearings are made by compressing metal powders in suitable moulds to give form and structure to the bearings. The formed bearings are then heated to just below the melting point for fusion bonding to give strength to the bearings. The bearings are shaped and sized to the required dimensions, producing precision bearings. The interconnected or open porosity in the bearings is then filled to the required volume with lubricating oil, either by an extended soaking in hot oil or preferably by a vacuum impregnation operation. This process produces precision oil impregnated bearings having light weight, good strength, and accuracy.

Sintered bushings are made in various sizes in cylindrical, flanged cylindrical, spherical, thrust washer and special shapes. These bearings are economical, suitable for high production rates and can be manufactured to precision tolerances.
