Antimony forms a highly useful alloy with lead, increasing its hardness and mechanical strength. The Sb-Pb alloy is used in lead-acid batteries.[2][32] It is used in antifriction alloys, such as Babbitt metal.[33] It is used as an alloy in bullets and lead shot, cable sheathing, type metal (e.g. for linotype printing machines[34]), solder – some "lead-free" solders contain 5% Sb,[35] in pewter,[36] and in hardening alloys with low tin content in the manufacturing of organ pipes.
