magnesium carbonate is a white monoclinic crystalline or amorphous powder, odourless, tasteless, and stable in the air. its composition is x mgco3· y mg(oh) 2· z h2o.
The ratio of x, y, z can be 4:1:4,4:1:5,4:1:6,4:1:7,3:1:3, 3:1:4. The relative density is 2.16. Magnesium carbonate is slightly soluble in water and solubility is 0.02% (15 ℃). Its aqueous solution is slightly alkaline. Magnesium carbonate is soluble in acid and ammonium salt solution. Mgco3 decomposes and releases carbon dioxide when reacting with dilute acid. Mgco3 decomposes and produces water, carbon dioxide and magnesium oxide.
Application:
magnesium carbonate can be used as desiccant , colour agents, carriers, anti-caking agent, antacids in medicines, filler and reinforcing agents for rubber products, fireproofing insulation material with the characters like heat insulation, high temperature resistance. Asbestos light magnesium carbonate is an excellent insulation material for shipbuilding, boiler manufacturing and other fields. Magnesium carbonate can be used for manufacturing advanced glass products, magnesium salt, pigments, paints and chemicals.
preparation method :
magnesium carbonate can be produced with brine, limestone carbonation, soda or ammonium bicarbonate. Qianghong magnesium carbonate is produced by reacting of high purity magnesium hydroxide and ammonium bicarbonate. The quality is excellent.
