Limestone, Material : Limestone

Limestone is widely used these days. It is a type of sedimentary rock and has minerals like calcite and Aragonite. These are the forms of calcium carbonate and are produced through animals. Belsazar Hacquet was the first to find limestone in 1778, earlier limestone was mixed with dolomite.

Limestone has many uses and it is used for making buildings, artistic designs, base for the roads and white pigment in toothpaste etc. Limestone is available in varieties like crystalline, smooth, elastic and this texture depends basically on how it is formed, even the color of limestone differs because of the presence of impurities like clay and organic materials. Building material in limestone ranges from limestone tiles, limestone slabs for flooring and what not. It is also used for flooring of commercial complexes and is heavily used in the flooring of big buildings like hospitals, shopping malls, airports, etc. One of the seven wonders pyramids are also made of limestone. The use of limestone in building material is also not new as the people in middle ages were also using it for construction purposes.
