Lockwire or safety wire is used as a positive locking device to prevent the loosening or falling out of fasteners from factors such as vibration, and can also be used to show that a fastener has been tightened properly. It is commonly used in aerospace and car industries for throttle assemblies or safety guards where extreme reliability is needed. When using lock wire, it is threaded through a hole in the fastener, twisted, then anchored to a second fastener, and twisted again.
