The Loop Scanner is a device that measures the amplitude of the slack loop in the material, using a photocell sensitive to infra-red radiation emitted by hot metal as wires and plates, etc, whose temperature is higher than 250^oC. A digital output is provided on the basis of the presence of hot metal section and independent of the position of the metal within the "field of view". An analog output proportional to the sensed angular position of the metal is usually used to control the loop. The special design of the Loop Scanner is achieved using microcontrollers last generation, their communication interface RS485 (optional) and their robust construction make this photocell versatile and ideal for harsh environments such as those found in steel industries.
