maca is an andean crop which develops in a very restricted area in the central andes of peru (cerro de pasco , junin, tarma , jauja, concepciã³n and huancayo). This crop was domesticated about 2000 years ago in a climate of low temperatures and strong winds that limit the production of other crops , because this is between 4000 and 5500 meters above sea level, in sedimentary limestone and dark clay.
