In pharmaceutical industry, pharmaceutical grade magnesium carbonate can be used fin anti-acid agent, drying, color-protecting agent, carrier, anti-caking agent, and the treatment of hyperacidity etc. As food grade products, it can be used as food additives and magnesium compensation.
Magnesium carbonate is white monoclinic crystalline or amorphous powder. Its chemical compositions generally is expressed in x MgCO3· y Mg(OH) 2· z H2O, of which the proportions of x, y and z have several different kinds and can be 4:1:4, 4:1:5, 4:1:6, 4:1:7, 3:1:3 and 3:1:4. And nontoxic, odorless, stable in the air. Relative density is 2.16. Slightly soluble in water, and its aqueous solution shows weak alkaline reaction. Its solubility in water is 0.02% (15�). Easily soluble in acid and ammonium salt solution, it shall resolve and send out carbon dioxide while meeting with diluted acid. Heated to 300� and above, it shall resolve and produce water, carbon dioxide and magnesium oxide.
