Manganese Ore occurs as silvery grey in colour and is very hard and brittle in nature. It is always available in combination with iron, laterite and other minerals. Manganese ores of major commercial importance are: (i) Pyrolusite (MnO2, Mn about 63.2%); (ii) Psilomelane (manganese oxide, containing water and varying amounts of oxides of Ba, K and Na as impurities; Mn commonly 45-60%); (iii) Manganite (Mn2O3. H2O, Mn about 62.4%); and (iv) Braunite (3Mn2O3, MnSiO3, Mn about 62% and SiO2 about 10%).

• Steel Grade: Mn 28 to 35%,  Ore size 10 to 40 mm. Other constituents general stipulations are Fe: 16 to 22%, SiO2 : 2 to 8%, Al2O3 : 5 to 8% and P: 0.3% maximum.
• Aluminum Alloy Grade: Aluminum with Mn 1.5%
• Chemical industry Grade: High-grade material. MnO2 80% (min), SiO 25% (max), Fe2O3  5% (max) and 200 to 250 mesh ore size
• Glass industry Grade: Ore analysing MnO2 80% (preferably 86% min), Fe2O3 5% (preferably 0.75% max), SiO2 2.8% (max), Al2O3 1.1% (max), BaO 1.3% (max), CaO 0.4% (max) and MgO 0.4% (max)
• Dry cell battery Grade: For electrolytic manganese dioxide (EMD) used in dry cell battery are MnO2 90% (min), Fe (as oxide) 0.05% (max), moisture 4% (max), Pb 0.15% (max) and pH 4.5 to 5.6.
