Melatonin are two types: natural and synthetic (manmade). Natural melatonin is made from the pineal gland of animals. This form could be contaminated with a virus, so it's not recommended. The synthetic form of melatonin doesn't carry this risk.

STORAGE OF MELATONIN:It has been found as melatonin has an acceptable stability in all storage conditions tested: Darkness at -32ºC, darkness at 4ºC, darkness at 25ºC, darkness at 50ºC, light at -32ºC, light at 4ºC, light at 25ºC and light at 50ºC until day 13, except the samples kept at room temperature in light.
APPLICATIONS OF MELATONIN:People most commonly use melatonin for insomnia and improving sleep in different conditions, such as jet lag. It is also used for depression, chronic pain, dementia, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support most of these uses.
HOW TO USE: The usual starting dose is one 2mg slow release tablet taken 30 minutes to 1 hour before bedtime.
HOW MELATONIN WORKS: Melatonin is a hormone that your brain produces in response to darkness. It helps with the timing of your circadian rhythms (24-hour internal clock) and with sleep. Being exposed to light at night can block melatonin production.
CONTRAINDICATIONS OF MELATONIN: Bleeding disorders: Melatonin might make bleeding worse in people with bleeding disorders. Depression: Melatonin can make symptoms of depression worse. High blood pressure: Melatonin can raise blood pressure in people who are taking certain medications to control blood pressure. Avoid using it.
