1. Hepatoprotective effect

    silymarin is the main active ingredient as a hepatoprotective, meanwhile it has regeneration function, stimulates the formation of new liver cells, and improves liver function. It also protects liver cell membrane and liver infiltrating cytotoxic cells, and improves the resilience of membrane defects. 

2. Antioxidant

    silymarin has a strong antioxidant activity through phenolic hydroxyl provides hydrogen atoms. They have free radical scavenging properties and anti-lipid peroxidation activity. 

3. Hypolipidemic

    silymarin can inhibit ca2 + channels in adult rat cardiac cell plasma membrane, inhibit high blood cholesterol which is induced by food, lower very low density lipoprotein (vldl) and low density lipoprotein (ldl), increased high-density  lipoprotein (hdl). It can be used for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
