During machining these Monel K500 Rings (UNS N05500) work harden rapidly, generate high heat during cutting, weld to the cutting tool surface and offer high resistance to metal removal because of their high shear strengths. Hardness values in Alloy 400 Circle are suitable for specification purposes provided tensile properties are not also specified. During aging in Alloy K500 Circle, a slight permanent contraction takes place, but little warpage occurs because of the low temperatures and slow cooling rates involved.
