The mechanism of action of mupirocin is as a rna synthetase inhibitor.
Mupirocin is a natural crotonic acid derivative extracted from pseudomonas fluorescens. Mupirocin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by specific reversible binding to bacterial isoleucyl trna synthase.

mupirocin is a white crystalline solid. It is soluble in ethanol, methanol, dmf, dmso (≥ 10 mgml), and water (limited) with melting range of 75°c to 78°c.
